With Gratitude….

All Things Must Pass. It’s one of our favorite George Harrison songs on an album by the same name. Kind of sad, but filled with hope. It’s a good reflection of how we feel in announcing that after a decade of operating Modern Anthology and making our home in Brooklyn, we’ve made the difficult decision, (with a little help from the Covid-19 pandemic), to close our brick and mortar shop. While we’ve done our best to stay the course, there has clearly been a seismic shift that requires us to dance to a different tune.

We first saw an opportunity in 2010 to create a retail experience that fully integrated furniture, home goods, and accessories with apparel collections from independent brands who we admired; and were humbled by the response. Today, we’re looking at a future that will have more of us working remotely, reprioritizing the things that matter most, and building new foundations to support the inevitable changes that will be reverberating all around us in the years to come. But these challenging times also bring new opportunities.

As designers, we believe we have a role to play in generating new ideas and concepts for a brighter future; and hope that you’ll continue to follow our journey online, in whatever form it takes. Returning to our roots to create public spaces and living environments that address our shared concerns without compromising aesthetics is a natural direction for us, and one that we’re eager to explore. While we don’t have all of the answers just yet, we’re ok with embracing uncertainty – we’re even good at it.

As everything about our ‘new normal’ is fluid, you can keep up to date with us on IG @modernanthology

We’re so grateful for the opportunity you’ve given us to bring Modern Anthology to life – an idea that was born in our imaginations and fueled by our passion to share stories through the lens of good design. With your support, the shop became a playground where we could explore our whims and watch as it evolved and grew over ten years. The shop was always filled with extraordinary people whose creativity inspired us, and we sincerely thank you for accepting us into this vibrant community. Thank you also to our brand partners, amazing neighbors, dedicated staff and to our family and friends who have been there for us every step of the way. We look forward to sharing our next chapter with you very soon.

With Gratitude,

John, Becka & the MA Team
